Growth Strategy

Established in 1956, Divan Hotels helped to pioneer the tourism, hotel and food & beverage industries in Turkey, earning a reputation for excellence and quality that is based on superior products and services, reliability and professionalism. In recognition of this proven record of excellence, Divan Hotels was the first hotel chain in Turkey to receive ISO 9001 Quality Certification. By maintaining uncompromisingly high standards, the company has built a half-century tradition of outstanding service, innovative products and unparalleled customer satisfaction.

Today, Divan Hotels operates six hotels in Turkey’s leading destinations, offering business travellers international standard accommodations with a Turkish flair. In 2010, Divan Hotels will open three new properties, including the brand’s newly reconstructed flagship, the Divan Istanbul (228 rooms), the Divan Çorlu (120 rooms) and the Divan Ankara Çukurhan (19 rooms), a luxury boutique hotel. By 2015, Divan Hotels plans to operate a regional chain of 50 city hotels serving the discerning international executive traveller.

The rapidly expanding Divan Hotels brand’s operations in the hotel industry include both chain-owned and investor-owned hotels managed by Divan Hotels under its brand umbrella and to the Divan’s exacting standards. Building on its solid reputation and experience in the Turkish market, Divan has set its sights on expansion into geographically relevant international markets.



Divan Hotels believes that success and a sterling reputation never happen by accident, which is why three strategic imperatives are the starting point for all of our expansion and business decisions:

  • To operate or own distinctive city hotels in prime urban areas in a region stretching from Turkey to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and beyond.
  • To capitalize on the high level of positive awareness of Turkish hospitality and Turkish cuisine to offer upscale business travellers a fresh and more authentic alternative to standardized global hotel chains.
  • To bring a new emphasis on excellence and personal service to the areas where we operate and contribute to the development of the local hospitality industry.


On the basis of this intellectual framework, we have developed a well-defined expansion road map, which calls for Divan Hotels to focus on growth in markets that have integral and inherent ties with Turkey, including both cultural and more importantly economic ties. Regions that have economic ties and familiarity with Turkey offer a solid base for guest identification with the brand and effective communication of our brand values. These are crucial factors in the effective execution of our business and executive travel brand positioning.

This strategy directly informs our geographic focus, which includes Turkey, Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the Caucasus and Central Asian Republics (CCAR) and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). All of these regions offer historic and cultural ties to Turkey that allow us to leverage our heritage of gourmet Turkish cuisine, as well as large and rising volumes of trade with Turkey and in many cases inward investment by Turkish corporations including Koç Group companies.
